Netball South Celebration Event 2023 Wrap Up!

Netball South Celebration Event 2023 Wrap Up!

A few weeks have passed since the Netball South Celebration Event which took place on Saturday 17th June at Wavell School in Farnborough.

We would like to extend a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone that made the time and journey to join us on the day and everyone that worked to hard behind the scenes to bring the day together.

We had over 100 of you join us throughout the day; regional competition winners and runners up, coaches, players, parents, back to netball teams taking part in the festival, volunteers nominated for ONE awards, nominators, friends, family & supporters, committee members and England Netball staff. We had icecream to cool us down on a sticky day, curtesy of Sandra amnning the ice cream van. Bacon butties, tea, coffee and snacks keeping us well fuelled throughout the day thanks to Anthony and his team at Really Awesome Coffee.

Woodley Netball Club ran a Tombola and "guess the name" stand to raise some funds for the clubs to take some of their junior teams to Disney Tournament in Easter. They managed to raise almost £150, many thanks to everyone for getting involved so generously. A special mention to Betsy and Regan who manned the stall so enthusiastically, I'm sure there is a job in Marketing and Sales for you both in the future if you ever wanted it!

We awarded the trophies for our regional winners and runners up. I huge congratulations to all the clubs for a successful 22-23 season:

As a new addition to the event, we ran our first ever Netball South Back To Netball festival. We had teams from Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Sussex and we thank you for being our inaugural teams - a small bit of history for Netball South! We hope that this festival will grow in popularity year on year with teams from all counties in the region for both Back to Netball and Walking Netball. Thank you to all the officials and scorers on the day for keeping things running like clockwork. The final standings were as follows:

1st  Beacon Hawks
2nd Berkshire Belles
3rd Burgess Hill
4th Oxfordshire Dreaming Triers

And finally an update on the main event- the ONE Awards. We received 82 nominations in the region with volunteers being put forward in a total of 9 categories. These applications were all reviewed by our panel - Nicky Fuller, Joan Mills and Phyllis Avery, and our winners were announced as follows:

Coach of the year - children and young people Lisa Wayman
Coach of the year - adults Liz Creighton
Club of the year Stars Netball Club
Community official of the year Mary Stanley
Outstanding contribution Lindsay Sartori
Pioneer of the year Laura Ellis
Teacher of the tear Sarah Wilcox
Unsung hero Carolyn Davies
Young volunteer of the year Zoe Cheal

All our winners will go on to represent the South region in their respective categories at the National ONE Awards event taking place on 14th October in Sutton Coldfield, West Mids. We wish them all the very best of luck and are extreme proud as a region to have such amazing people in our midst.

If fact the standard of the nominations was so high this year that the panel wanted to highlight some names that were deserving of a special mention despite not winning their category:

Julie Tucker, Karen Bossom, Kate Maxfield, Kerry Brown, Lillie Pocock and Vicky Bowyer.

We also added to our list of Long Service members - any volunteer that has served at least 10 years in the Region:

Jane Halsey, Louise Gelhardt, Kate Maxfield, Christina Berenger, Val Banks, Bev Crook and Heidi Rosamund.

A very special President's Award was presented to Jan Johnson for her outstanding dedication to netball in the south region, particularly through her role as the CTSG chair.

We hope to set a date in the diary soon for next year's event, hoping that it will continue to become a bigger and better event every year! For those that attended this year there is a survey here to submit anonymous feedback. We would really appreciate any feedback so that we can use it to put on the best event for YOU!

Wishing you all a pleasant summer break,
