EAST GRINSTEAD SPORT CENTRE - March 1st 2008
The U16's games were all fought with varying, competitive styles and although Saucony in this age group were perhaps the least experienced of teams - they made sure that their opponents had to fight hard to get the winning goals.
It was always expected that Phoenix and Eagles would be the leading contenders in this age group - however Dominoes, a Sussex based team and unknown to many of the other regional clubs, showed their winning style against Eagles, beating them by 7 goals to 4. This defeat pushed Eagles back down to 3rd position with Phoenix remaining undefeated at the top.
Final Positions
Our thanks to Gillian Frackelton, umpire co-ordinator extraordinaire, who with great difficulty but fantastic aplomb organised the very depleted number of umpires, and to those umpires who were more than overstretched we say a big THANK YOU.
We also thank Grace & Stewart Johnson who organised the recording and time keeping, along with their assistants, the fantastic young score runners from CD Phoenix, the tournament referees Phyliss Avery and myself (who didn;t get an awful lot to do)! Life care - who were there for injury cover, Sue Blackshaw (Regional Chair) who also attended and finally last, but certainly not least, the staff at East Grinstead Sports Centre under the watchful eye of Alison Armstrong who went out their way to make everything perfect for us on the day.
